LOS EBANOS — U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the Rio Grande City station seized more than 600 pounds of marijuana from an abandoned vehicle Thursday.

According to an agency statement, agents south of Sullivan City tried to stop a Ford F-150 pickup truck travelling north.

La Joya police and Department of Public Safety troopers also saw the truck and followed it to Los Ebanos where they found it abandoned.

During the pursuit, homemade spikes were thrown — an attempt to stop law enforcement vehicles. Two civilian vehicles were disabled by the spikes.

No arrests were made and the drugs and truck were turned over to DPS troopers, who continue to investigate the incident, local Border Patrol spokesman Daniel Milian said.
