ICE seizes more than 4 tons of marijuana from a south Texas warehouse

MCALLEN, Texas - Agents with U.S. Immigration and Custom Enforcement's (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) on Friday discovered inside a tractor trailer more than 8,000 pounds of marijuana with an estimated street value of $6.6 million.

ICE HSI special agents on March 11 executed a federal search warrant on a warehouse located at the 4000 block of Highway 281 in Edinburg, Texas. The agents discovered a tractor trailer parked inside the warehouse. During the search of the tractor trailer they discovered 3786 kilograms (8331 pounds) of marijuana concealed inside false compartments. According to ICE HSI, the marijuana was hidden within the tanker. In addition to the marijuana discovered, agents also recovered a fully loaded assault weapon.

"This significant seizure sends a strong message to drug smugglers that we will not tolerate brazen disregard for U.S. laws," said Jerry Robinette, special agent in charge of ICE HSI in San Antonio. "Because of their efforts, our ICE HSI agents prevented million of dollars of marijuana from ending up on the streets."

Seizure of this marijuana represents the very early stages of this investigation.

No arrests have been made related to this drug seizure. This is an ongoing investigation.
