Man Gets 15 Years For Kidnapping, Robbing Woman

MORRISTOWN, N.J. (AP) ― A man who admitted carjacking a woman in Morristown and forcing her to withdraw money from an automated teller machine has been sentenced to 15 years in state prison.

Under the sentence imposed Friday, 21-year-old Carlos Guaman, an undocumented immigrant from Ecuador, must serve 85 percent of his term before becoming eligible for parole. He pleaded guilty in November.

Prosecutors say Guaman approached his victim on April 30 as she got out of her car, displayed a knife and ordered her to drive to an ATM. She drove to Florham Park and withdrew $300.

She then told Guaman she was having car trouble and drove to a gas station in nearby Hanover, ran inside and told a worker to call police. Officers spotted Guaman walking away and arrested him.
