LATimes Downplays Overwhelming Result of Own Online AZ Poll

LA Times Downplays Overwhelming Result of Own Online Poll on Arizona Boycott

The cactus in the photo at right planted along the Arizona border with California gives a pretty good indication of the reaction of that state to the boycott directed at them by the Los Angeles city council over the new immigration law. However, what is the opinion of folks in California? If a Los Angeles Times poll showed overwhelming support for the boycott, do you not think this would be front page news? Well, the results were overwhelming...97.6% of the respondents to this L.A. Times poll were opposed to the boycott of Arizona. The poll question: "Was the L.A. City Council right to pass a boycott of Arizona?" Here are the results:

Yes. Arizona needs to feel the consequences of enacting a bad law. 2.1% (378 votes)

Yes, though the boycott should be more of a symbolic gesture than an official measure. 0.4% (64 votes)

No, but only because doing so is probably illegal and not in L.A.'s interest. 4.2% (771 votes)

No. The city should mind its own business. 93.4% (17,030 votes)

So an astonishing 97.6% percent of those who participated in this poll are opposed to the boycott. Is this not big news? Not for the L.A. Times since the only place you can find the results is at the page that pops up after you vote. For the time being the results of the poll are being kept under wraps at the Times which is probably embarrassed by the one-sided outcome. Not kept under wraps are the comments by the readers:

    • The city council is a JOKE! They equated this to Nazi Germany?!! Are they kidding? I'm tired of them raising the rates of our DWP and doing essentially NOTHING to keep their jobs. All these people should be FIRED and REPLACED. Maybe the city will save some money. Do they know that Arizona provides us with POWER?? I am disgusted with them.

With the city budget in shambles and record unemployment, these idiots in the LA City Council are doing this? Jerks! As of today, I've got my OWN ban: I hereby boycott all businesses in LA county.

In a city that is drowning in debt, whose schools are failing, is covered in graffiti and squalor, I find in incredulous that the city council can find extra time and money to devote to this. This is an issue that Az is struggling with and it is their business how they handle it. To try and affect another states economy is horrible. Az should refuse to do business with LA until they get rid of the most ignorant mayor in history.

Meanwhile one wonders how many more similar cacti will be planted along the state line in Arizona facing California. It appears that even most folks in California agree with the attitude represented by those cactus plants.

Ahhhh. . . . . .thank you for posting that. I am literally breathing easier with this new knowledge that there is some sanity beyond this forum. Thanks for the smile. I was thinking that LA was going to be redefining it's national status in the very near future. Maybe not.

I have been going back and forth reading the comments in the LA Times and the Sacramento Bee. Both show the true feelings of Californians. It is evident that our politians aren't reading them, just like they haven't even bothered to read the AZ Bill.

I wonder what it is going to take for us to be heard. Sometime I visualize true Californian's joining arms and marching from our Oregon Border south and pushing all of our illegal aliens and illegal politicans south of the border.

We heard the bad news of our budget cuts today. No more social programs, welfare cut, medicare cut. I hope the illegals got the message that California is broke, no more freebies. Don't bother comming here from AZ there isn't anything left and the ones that are here take your anchor babies and leave our wallet is empty.

Yeah, it's really weird. When I read posts and comments at news sources about IA's I don't see the 'R' word being thrown around anymore. If the person posting isn't 100% behind the AZ law, it is only because they are dubious about racial profiling - but they admit something needs to be done.
