Teamsters Play Monopoly with Three Stooges

Bill Clinton signed NAFTA into law, which means free trade with Mexico. Free trade is good and competition is better because it lowers prices for the American consumer.

Jimmy Hoffa, however, refuses to play nice while the Transportation Department which announced a plan to grant 100 Mexican companies permission to exceed the current 25-mile limit on the U.S. side of the border for a one year period.

Democrats Byron Dorgan (North Dakota), Dianne Feinstein (California) and Patty Murray (Washington) are doing Hoffa’s bidding by sponsoring an amendment to delay the proposal and attaching it to the Iraq and Afghanistan war supplemental spending bill.

First, this amendment has nothing to do with Iraq and Afghanistan but is part of the Iraq Funding Bill pork.

Second, it has everything to do with Democrat payback to unions who pay for politicians fun, frolic and votes.

Hoffa tells the truth when he says:

“The Teamsters Union has successfully led the battle to keep our border closed for the past 12 years and we will not let up in our fight as this measure moves through Congress.” As Mr. Hoffa admits, Democratic talk about “labor rights” is often nothing more than a front for union monopoly.

Keeping the border closed to legitimate free trade is a U.S. Treaty committment and good for America. Hoffa and the Democrats only see block competition in their best political interest.

NAFTA should receive its “Get Out of Jail Card” as it’s a win, win for everyone but the Teamsters and Democrats.
