At least eight killed, including 2 brothers, in 24 hours in Juárez

An unidentified woman was found strangled in south Juárez on Sunday morning, part of a string of homicides leaving at least eight victims -- two brothers among them -- within the last 24 hours.

According to Chihuahua state police in Juárez, a woman in her late 30s was found lying in a vacant lot at Volcán del Agua and Paseo de San Isidro streets, in the Parajes de San Isidro neighborhood, around 9:15 a.m.

Her face was covered with bruises with a red cord around her neck, forensic experts said. She was found only wearing white socks, officials said.

Earlier today, a 33-year-old male died when a vehicle ran him over at Yucatán and Grosella streets, in south Juárez's Ampliación Aeropuerto neighborhood, authorities said.

The victim, identified as José Armando Zamarripa, had both shoulders broken. State police seized a 1994 green Chevrolet Astro vehicle. Authorities ruled his death as a homicide.

An unidentified male was shot in the head at point-blank range today in the Granjas San Rafael neighborhood in west Juárez.

The victim, in his mid 30s, was found dead in a backyard. He suffered four head wounds and forensic experts recovered three .45 mm bullet casings at the scene.

On Saturday, two brothers' charred bodies were found inside a home in the 1904 block of Emiliano Zapata street in west Juárez, officials said.

Andrés Darío Padilla Martínez, 20, and Carlos Omar Padilla Martínez, 14, were laying in one of the bedrooms. The teenager also was shot in his right leg, Chihuahua state police said.
Forensic experts retrieved a 7.62x39 bullet casing.

On Friday night, three men were shot to death in the Campestre Virreyes neighborhood, state police said.

Two victims were found inside a food booth on the street.The third victim, an unidentified male in his mid 20s, was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

One of the men was identified as Rafael Muñoz Canela, 52. The other, a young man in his early 20s, also remains unidentified.

Forensic experts recovered 12 bullet casings at the scene.
