(503) 362-19842008, when deputies responded to the 4700 Block of Paul Court NE in Salem, regarding shots fired at a residence. Deputy Chapman was working in Detectives at that time and was assigned as the lead investigator on this case. His investigation revealed there had been a party at the Paul Court address and one of the party goers went outside, pulled a gun and fired several rounds into a crowd of people as well as into the air. No one was hit at that time, however, a 22 year old male who was also at the party, confronted the suspect and asked him what he was doing. According to the victim, the suspect didn’t say anything he just turned the gun and shot at him. The victim was shot one time in the stomach and taken to the hospital with life threatening injuries. He underwent surgery and was later released. The suspect immediately left the area and deputies were unable to locate him. Eduardo Enrique Coronel (6-10-89) was developed as a suspect based on witnesses and the victim’s statement. Deputy Chapman attempted to locate him but the information he received indicated Coronel may have gone to Mexico shortly after the shooting.
In late June of 2008, Deputy Chapman received a phone message from Coronel indicating he knew he was looking for him but said he was in Mexico and didn’t leave a number where he could be contacted.
When Deputy Chapman left the Detectives Unit after his four year rotation he returned to patrol and continued to look for Coronel. Deputy Chapman believed Coronel was still in Mexico but had recently received information indicating Coronel may be back in the Salem area. On 3-4-09, Deputy Chapman located Coronel at his mother’s residence in the 4300 block of Snowberry Street NE. Coronel was arrested on the above listed charges and lodged in the Marion County Jail.
