MA-Mass. immigrant tuition bill to get new push

Mass. immigrant tuition bill to get new push

CHELSEA, Mass. -- Immigrant advocates are getting ready to push Massachusetts lawmakers to pass legislation that would allow undocumented immigrants to pay in-state tuition at state colleges.

Lawmakers are expected to revisit the issue three years after House lawmakers soundly rejected a similar bill.

But this time activists say they have cultivated a broader coalition of supporters that includes union members, business leaders, academics and even undocumented students.

Ten other states, some dominated by conservative lawmakers, have similar legislation, and advocates see no reason why Massachusetts, a state controlled by Democrats, can't do the same.

Some lawmakers, like Democratic Rep. Demetrius Atsalis, of Barnstable, say they still oppose the measure.

Has anyone asked what the cost of this will be? No! And input from undocumented students? How about talking to the citizen students that are from out-of-state and don't even get noticed? These citizens are probably up to their eyeballs in student loans which will take the first 20 years of their working life to repay. How fair is that?

I support enforcement and see its lack as bad for the 3rd World as well. Remittances are now mostly spent on consumption not production assets. Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)

    Illegal immigration in Massachusetts

Massachusetts has the one of the highest unemployment rates in the country and the highest here in 27 years (10.4 percent).

A survey has shown that illegal aliens here comprise 40 percent of the overall workforce, with the largest amount being employed by the construction industry.

Yet the governor here now wants to give them even more benefits, paying for these benefits with taxpayer dollars. Currently illegal aliens cost the state 9.4 million annually. And the state is facing a huge budget deficit which will ultimately result in higher taxes for massachusetts US citizens.

This is an unacceptable situation and requires immediate attention and protest. If enough people step up to the plate and write their representatives about how unhappy they are with this situation it should make a difference.

Don't reward the criminal actions of millions of illegal aliens by giving them citizenship.
