BROWNSTOWN TOWNSHIP, Mich. (KGUN9-TV) - Hundreds of mourners lined up Monday night to pay their respects to a U.S. Border Patrol agent killed in the line of duty.

Agent Brian Terry was shot and killed last week in southern Arizona in a gun battle with border bandits. Terry was shot Tuesday night in Peck Canyon, near Rio Rico. He died early Wednesday morning. His body was flown to his home state of Michigan over the weekend, where his friends and family now face the tough task of saying goodbye just days before Christmas.

Several Border Patrol representatives were present at the Brownstown Township, funeral home, just a stone's throw from Terry's hometown of Flat Rock. For the Border Patrol, being there for the family of a fallen comrade may be one of their most important operations. The agents attending Agent Brian Terry's visitation service knew their mission was to stand by the Terry family while they remembered the son who gave his life protecting the U.S. Border. Relatives said they wanted everyone to know Agent Terry was an incredible man, and the rock in their family.

"He was an all-American boy. He was just somebody that any mother would be proud to have," said Agent Terry's mother, Josephine. "If there was anything going wrong, he was always there, like the referee, and he always patched things up."

Funeral and burial services for Agent Brian Terry are planned for Wednesday, December 22nd.
