Another Mexican Immigration Plan

Mexican lawmakers are not happy about the recent fence bill passed in the U.S. Congress. But not to worry, they are working on ways to get around it.

If they can’t get a bilateral migratory accord signed between the U.S. and Mexico, a group of Mexican senators has an alternative–set up migratory accords between states in the U.S. and Mexico.

Their proposal would give permission to Mexican states to sign accords with states north of the border, for the hiring of Mexican workers. [Entregarán senadores a Calderón propuesta de reforma migratoria Notimex El Universal Mexico City, October 1, 2006]

When it comes to meddling in U.S. immigration law, Mexican lawmakers can be very resourceful. Why can’t they display that same talent in figuring out ways to improve Mexico’s economy?
