Rep. Marchant Introduces Bill Concerning Amendment of Illegal Immigration Reform, Immigrant Responsibility Act of 1996

Rep. Kenny Marchant, R-Texas has introduced the bill (H.R.2064), legislation that will "amend the Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act of 1996 to ensure employers verify the identity and employment eligibility of an employee from the time of their application for employment."

The bill, introduced on May 31, was co-sponsored by Rep. Austin Scott, R-Georgia. It was referred to the House Judiciary Committee and Education and the Workforce Committee.

To amend the Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act of 1996 to ensure employers verify the identity and employment eligibility of an employee from the time of application for employment.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled,

SECTION 1. EMPLOYMENT VERIFICATION SYSTEM.

Section 404(d)(4)(B) of the Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act of 1996 is amended by striking 'prior to an offer of employment' and inserting 'prior to the time of the submission of an employment application'.
