Indio border patrol finds $3 million worth of marijuana

Early Tuesday morning Indio Border Patrol agents working near the Salton Sea pulled over a tractor and trailer and found over $3 million worth of marijuana.

At around 12 a.m. Border Patrol Agents conducted a vehicle stop of a freightliner and a k-9 unit was dispatched, according to a press release from the U.S. Customs and Border Patrol.

A total of 3, 822.9 pounds of marijuana valued at $3,058,320 was concealed within hay bales the tuck was hauling.

In the last 30 days, El Centro Sector Border Patrol agents have seized more than 8, 367 pounds of marijuana, 54 pounds of cocaine and more than 3 pounds of methamphetamine, for an approximate combined value of 8.5 million, officials said.

The driver, contraband, tractor and trailer were turned over to the California Department of Justice, Bureau of Narcotics Enforcement.
