Huge brawls see hundreds of migrants fighting in Calais

As many as 200 people using sticks and iron bars as weapons have been involved in mass brawls in the French city of Calais.


The fighting left 21 migrants and six riot police officers injured, though none were seriously hurt.


Authorities said the five brawls mainly pitted Afghan migrants against men from Eritrea, with 150 people being involved in the last fight alone.


Regional newspapers said the brawl, which moved on to a highway, held up traffic.


Tear gas was used by riot police to disperse groups of people fighting at dawn on Tuesday after fights broke out the night before.

Seven people have been detained for questioning and another 20 could face expulsion from France having been placed in administrative detention.


The controversial Calais Jungle migrant camp was closed down last year, clearing 7,000 people from the area.


However, authorities believe many people that stayed there are slowly returning to the area, with estimates that 400 migrants are in the area.


Interior Minister Gerard Collomb said three weeks ago that 30,000 attempts to get into the Eurotunnel complex have been made since the start of 2017.


Two special centres for housing migrants are set to be opened in Calais.

All men...who have nothing to do all day. They bring their hate and violence with them.

Deport them ALL.

They are quite capable of fighting...send them back to fight for and change their own countries.

I wish they could get knives to deal their business
