Obama: Compares Illegal Imm. to Einstein, Tesla, Carnegie

Immigration, in our early days, did make the US great. We took all of the skilled immigrants we could, because if we did not, we would have lost our independence to some other imperial Power.

Today we have low skilled, welfare dependent, floating workers encouraged to litigate for civil right violations by advocacy groups. Pres. Obama has just said that we NEED the agricultural workers who have been here for generations. Even though for the last two hundred years US agriculture has become ever more reliant on machinery boosting production from 30 times to 100 times what it was two centuries ago in certain crops. We would be even more advanced had not a litigious climate ensued in the late 1970's to throttle technological advance.

If we relied on hand reaped wheat (1/100 of todays harvest) and hand picked corn (1/30 of todays level) we, and the people around the world we feed) would be hungry.

So how many new Einsteins are we actually housing in our federal prisons? Maybe they can find an answer to the hundreds of billions of dollars the entire illegal immigration phenomenon is costing us.

How do you spell "out of touch?" O-B-A-M-A.

This is the reality that Obama & Co. refuse to acknowledge in their crass pandering for a new voting group:

Obama: America's Borders 'Just Too Vast' to Secure
    Thursday, July 1, 2010 12:03 PM

President Barack Obama says America's borders are "just too vast" for the immigration problem to be solved with fences and border patrols alone.

He said that a comprehensive solution is needed, instead, urging one that holds everyone accountable, from illegal immigrants to the businesses that hire them.

Obama said the reality is, Republican support is needed to arrive at such a solution. Right now, GOP support is not forthcoming in an election year.

In his first major speech on immigration at president, Obama also spoke to the need to reform the system of legal immigration. That's a welcome message to advocates who contend too much emphasis has been placed on enforcing laws against illegal immigrants even as eligible citizenship applicants languish.

Obama blamed immigration policy gridlock on "political posturing and special interest wrangling."

In the speech Obama took Republicans to task, in particular 11 GOP senators who supported recent efforts to improve the immigration system. He did not name any in particular, but told his largely supportive audience at American University that those lawmakers had succumbed to the "pressures of partisanship and election-year politics."

Seeking to rally new momentum to an issue that many advocates had hoped would be completed by this point, Obama laid out his rationale for a comprehensive approach to fixing what he and others, Republicans included, say is a broken immigration system.

He said the problem cannot be solved "only with fences and border patrols" but said the government should be held accountable for its responsibility to secure the border. Obama also said businesses should face consequences for knowingly employing illegal immigrants and that those who enter the country illegally should own up to their actions before they can begin the process of becoming citizens.

"The question now is whether we will have the courage and the political will to pass a bill through Congress, to finally get it done," the president said. "I'm ready to move forward, the majority of Democrats are ready to move forward and I believe the majority of Americans are ready to move forward. But the fact is that without bipartisan support, as we had just a few years ago, we cannot solve this problem."

"Reform that brings accountability to our immigration system cannot pass without Republican votes," he said. "That is the political and mathematical reality."

THIS IS A BREAKING NEWS UPDATE. Check back soon for further information. AP's earlier story is below.

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama says his administration won't "kick the can down the road" when it comes to fixing the nation's broken immigration policies.

In his first major speech on the issue as president, Obama says that while the frustrations over immigration aren't new, Arizona's tough new anti-immigrant law and the protests surrounding it have created new tensions. Still, Obama says reform has been held hostage by political posturing and special-interest wrangling.

Obama had promised to make immigration reform a top priority in his first year in office. Advocates had hoped that his efforts would be completed by now.

Oh, boo hoo. The border's too big. The great wall of China seemed to work very well for them.

He admits the securing the border is the government's responsibility but, as they say, actions speak louder than words. Now that bullets are flying from Mexico and hitting the El Paso city hall, what's he going to do to actual secure the border.
