A 44-year-old man was ordered held on a $100,000 bond Friday morning after an appearance in Bartlett Municipal Court on a charge of aggravated statutory rape.

The case against Luis Gonzalez was continued to June 30 to allow for an interpreter to help the Chilean native understand the court proceedings. Even if he is able to post the bond, he would remain in custody. The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has a hold on him as an alleged undocumented immigrant, authorities said.

Gonzalez, who has a Memphis address, surrendered to Bartlett police Thursday on the accusation that he had sexual relations with a 16-year-old girl over a 7-month period.

Gonzalez, who formerly lived near the victim, told police he was aware the girl was underage.
