Governor speaks up for immigrants

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger has been taking a beating from the public for recent comments intended to force Californians to stop blaming illegal immigrants for the state's budget crisis.

Schwarzenegger is not backing down. In fact, he's ratcheting up the rhetoric. In the process, he's comforting the afflicted and afflicting the comfortable. There's more of that on the way.

During a recent meeting with The San Diego Union-Tribune editorial board, Schwarzenegger compared the tendency of Californians to treat Latino immigrants as scapegoats for the state's economic crisis to how Jews were blamed by the Nazis for Germany's economic difficulties following World War I.

The governor continues to attack the claim that California is in economic distress because the state provides services to illegal immigrants. He points out that the real drain is the enormous amount of money that goes out in salaries, benefits and pensions for state workers.

There is a spending problem, a tax problem, and a lack-of-a-rainy-day-fund problem, he says. Besides, Schwarzenegger adds, illegal immigrants contribute to California's bottom line by servicing hard-to-staff industries such as agriculture.

That's true. But many Californians refuse to face facts. During the meeting with the editorial board, I asked Schwarzenegger what he thought of the unfavorable reaction to his comments.

Fences are built to protect ones home and family from those who would prey on them. Hence the fence we need along the mexican border and for our leaders to protect us from this invasion. They can blabber all they want that Most illegals are just this and that but it still remains that there are enough with criminal intentions and ill will towards Americans where we MUST protect ourselves. No thanks Arnold.

Some Immigrants are good and some are bad. We need you to protect us from the bad ones. NOT let EVERYONE in and sort out the bodies later....ignorant jerk.
