10 suspects detained in desert after East Valley chase

Slideshow Officials have arrested 10 suspected undocumented immigrants after a vehicle pursuit began in the East Valley on Tuesday morning.

Department of Public Safety officers attempted to make a traffic stop for an equipment violation on a Chevy Dually crew cab pick up with a camper shell traveling west on Interstate 10 near Wild Horse pass around 5 a.m.

The driver of the truck reportedly failed to yield and a pursuit began.

DPS officials said the driver exited at Ray Road, traveled east on I-10, exiting again on Queen Creek to Riggs Road.

During the pursuit, bags and other items containing clothing, food, water and other desert survival items were thrown from the truck, according to DPS.

The driver went north on Riggs Road before driving out into the desert at about 5:17 am.

Several occupants reportedly fled from the truck and two people were found inside the truck.

Officers could be seen from overhead AIR15 searching the desert in the dark and apprehending several people.

Ten suspected undocumented immigrants were taken into custody.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement assisted DPS with the suspects.

The truck was seized by DPS.

It is not clear whether or not the driver was one of the ten in custody.

Phoenix Police Firebird Helicopter and Gila River police also assisted during the incident.
