U.S. Border Patrol Weekly Blotter: (07/22/2010)

Border Patrol agents seized over 18,274 pounds of marijuana and 143.8 pounds of cocaine. Agents arrested 5 criminal aliens and 11 gang members. There was one rocking incident.

Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 1,254 pounds of marijuana, a vehicle, and arrested two illegal aliens from Mexico near Progreso, Texas. Upon seeing agents, the subjects abandoned their vehicle and attempted to abscond, but were hampered by flood waters. The subjects were quickly apprehended and a search of the vehicle revealed the marijuana.


San Diego Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 125.95 pounds of cocaine, a Nissan minivan, and arrested three nationals of Mexico at the traffic checkpoint near Pine Valley, California. The subjects presented themselves for inspection and a Border Patrol canine alerted to the vehicle. A search by agents revealed the narcotics.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Sells, Arizona. Records checks revealed the subject was a convicted sex offender and had previously been removed from the United States.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 3,984 pounds of marijuana, a tractor-trailer, and arrested a United States Citizen (USC) at the traffic checkpoint near Nogales, Arizona. The subject presented himself for inspection and a Border Patrol canine alerted to the trailer. A search by agents revealed the narcotics.

Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Ajo, Arizona. Records checks revealed the subject was a convicted sex offender in the state of California and had previously been removed from the United States.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 1,110 pounds of marijuana near Palominas, Arizona. While conducting routine patrol duties, agents discovered the marijuana abandoned in a wash.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Three Points, Arizona. During processing, the subject claimed he had been robbed at gunpoint by his smuggler. The case was referred to the appropriate authorities for investigation.

Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 2,098 pounds of marijuana, a tractor-trailer, and arrested a USC at the traffic checkpoint near Sarita, Texas. The subject presented himself for inspection and a Border Patrol canine alerted to the trailer. A scan using non-intrusive inspection technology revealed anomalies in the trailer and a search by agents revealed the marijuana.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Casa Grande, Arizona. Records checks revealed the subject had a prior conviction for sex with a minor in the state of California and had previously been removed from the United States.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Douglas, Arizona. During processing, the subject admitted to being a Sureño gang member, and records checks revealed he had previously been removed from the United States.

Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 3,311 pounds of marijuana, 17.85 pounds of cocaine, a tanker-truck, and arrested a USC at the traffic checkpoint near Falfurrias, Texas. The subject presented himself for inspection and a Border Patrol canine alerted to the tanker. A scan using non-intrusive inspection technology revealed anomalies and a search by agents revealed the marijuana and cocaine.


San Diego Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from El Salvador near Dulzura, California. Records checks revealed the subject was a Mara Salvatrucha 13 (MS-13) gang member with prior convictions for burglary and kidnapping in the state of California.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 2,383 pounds of marijuana, a tractor-trailer, and arrested a national of Honduras at the traffic checkpoint near Tubac, Arizona. The subject presented himself for inspection and a Border Patrol canine alerted to the trailer. A scan using non-intrusive inspection technology revealed anomalies in the trailer and a search by agents revealed the marijuana.

El Centro Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Calexico, California. Records checks revealed the subject was a Los Locos Sureños gang member with an extensive criminal history. The subject had previously been removed from the United States.


El Paso Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested two illegal aliens from Mexico near Columbus, New Mexico. During processing, one subject admitted to being an East Side Locos 13 gang member and the other subject admitted to being a member of the Sureño 13 gang. Records checks revealed that both subjects had previously been removed from the United States.

Laredo Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 1,117 pounds of marijuana and a Ford truck near Bruni, Texas. Agents were investigating reports of suspicious activity on a ranch when they encountered an abandoned vehicle. A Border Patrol canine alerted to the vehicle, and a search revealed the narcotics.


San Diego Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 1,082 pounds of marijuana, a 20-foot boat, and arrested a USC and two nationals of Mexico near San Diego, California. Agents encountered the boat, and the occupants began exhibiting suspicious behavior. The occupants agreed to a consensual search of the boat and a Border Patrol canine alerted to the vessel. A search by agents revealed the narcotics aboard the boat.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Marana, Arizona. Records checks revealed the subject had active arrest warrants for rape, kidnapping, communication threats, and larceny issued in the state of North Carolina.

El Centro Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested four illegal aliens from Mexico near Ocotillo, California. During processing, the subjects claimed they were robbed at gunpoint while they were still in Mexico, and that the bandits took the group’s smuggler with them. The case was referred to the appropriate authorities for investigation.


Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from El Salvador near Havana, Texas. During processing, the subject admitted to being an MS-13 gang member and records checks revealed he had previously been removed from the United States.


Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 1,935 pounds of marijuana and a van near La Rosita, Texas. Agents observed the driver of the van acting suspiciously as he left the Rio Grande River area. As agents approached the scene, the driver abandoned the vehicle and absconded. A search of the vehicle revealed the marijuana.
