Local immigrant advocacy groups are hailing recent reports that President Obama plans to address immigration reform by searching for a path to legalize millions of illegal immigrants.

The reports surfaced last week after a New York Times story stated that Obama will speak publicly about the issue in May. Bipartisan committees will be assembled over the summer to develop legislation expected to be brought forward as early as the fall, administration officials told the Times.

The Colorado Immigrant Rights Coalition applauded the direction of reform Obama appears to be seeking. The group called the reform an “intrinsic piece of the country’s economic recovery and a policy response the American people will support.â€
