(CBS4) DENVER An employee of Arapahoe County was declaring partial victory Wednesday after he was in trouble for wearing a hat and having a patriotic sign on his personal truck. Mike Gray's story gained national attention after the county threatened action because officials said his sign and hat were offensive to Hispanic co-workers.

The sign on Gray's truck advertised his lawn mowing business. The sign said the business was run by an English speaking American. He was also told not to wear a hat that said "U.S. Border Patrol" on it.

"How can it be wrong saying what I am," Gray asked when CBS4 first reported his story. "I speak English and I'm an American. How can I be wrong? I've got to stand up for that."

Arapahoe County had threatened to fire Gray for the sign and hat.

Gray said Wednesday the issue had been resolved and he was allowed to again drive his truck with the sign to work with Arapahoe County. Gray said the county also agreed to remove the letter from his personnel file that called his actions reprehensible and discriminatory.

The county did start a new policy that said only official Arapahoe County hats can be worn on the job.
