Cochise County deputy dragged during traffic stop

HUACHUCA CITY, Ariz. A Cochise County sheriff's deputy is recovering after being dragged some 100 yards by a pickup whose driver drove off during a traffic stop.

The unidentified deputy was taken to Sierra Vista Regional Health Care Center for treatment of a broken ankle and abrasions.

The Cochise County sheriff's office says it turned out the pickup had been stolen in Phoenix last week.

The deputy stopped the pickup early yesterday in Huachuca (wah-CHU'-kuh) City. But during the stop, the deputy said the driver accelerated, dragging him for some 100 yards before he was able to free himself and roll away.

The driver of the pickup and passenger abandoned the vehicle about half a mile away. The suspected driver was arrested a short time later but the passenger escaped.

The suspect is from Michiocan, Mexico.
