3 Oklahoma governor candidates call immigration a federal issue

State lawmakers should not file any measures this legislative session to duplicate Arizona’s immigration law or write even harsher legislation, the three leading gubernatorial contenders said Friday.

They expressed concern that the measure could put Oklahoma in a legal battle, and that immigration reform is a federal issue.

Arizona legislators are looking at amending the law, which already has one lawsuit, said Democratic Lt. Gov. Jari Askins.

"I hope that legislators in Oklahoma will not just jump on board without taking time to fully study what Arizona has done,â€
