    Kennedy defends immigration legislation

    http://www.eyewitnessnewstv.com/Global/ ... v=menu20_3

WASHINGTON (AP) - Senator Edward Kennedy is defending his immigration reform legislation.

The bill backed by Kennedy, along with President Bush, would grant millions of illegal immigrants lawful status.

It also would tighten border security and create new measures for weeding illegal workers off of job sites.

The measure has stalled in Congress amid criticism -- especially from conservatives -- that it gives lawbreakers amnesty.

The Massachusetts Democrat, speaking on ABC's "This Week," said GOP opponents have offered no alternatives.

A vote on the stalled immigration legislation is expected before lawmakers begin their Fourth of July vacation.

Alabama Republican Senator Jeff Sessions, also appearing on "This Week," said the bill would do little to stem the future flow of illegal immigration.

Kennedy needs to represent the people who elected him not illegals who he has supported for many years.

That's because this shamnesty bill is so terrible and disgusting that we FIRST have to get rid of it completely. Then the GOP can come up with the most important segments that need legislation like employer enforcement, border fencing, immigration judges, tamperproof ID, and ag workers plans, etc. FIRST and get that through without all the path to legalization crap.

Subsequent to this, the House and Senate can take up a separate bill to address those 12-20 million illegals already here with full hearings, congressional debate and cost analysis. This would be the point where Congress should seriously review ALL U.S. immigration policies and determine what future plan should be designed for the benefit of this country and its current citizens.

THE ILLEGALS CAN JUST GET TO THE BACK OF THE LINE WHILE THEY ARE WAITING. THOSE THAT DON'T SHOULD BE DEPORTED.
