Border Patrol agents tailed five people from the Rio Grande to the Navigation District in Port Isabel, and arrested three of them on drug charges early Monday morning after they tried to flee.

An agent saw with thermal imaging technology the five people carrying bundles just north of the river late Sunday, and notified other agents in the area that the group was headed toward Port Isabel, according to a federal criminal complaint.

Several hours later, the agents approached the group when it reached the Navigation District, and the five people ran in all directions. Agents arrested three of them, the complaint said.

Juan Roberto Caballero-Escamilla, Fausto Noe Cruz-Araujo and Juan Carlos Delgado-Galindo are charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.

Agents seized about 250 pounds of the drug from the men after their arrest, the complaint said.
