Immigration reform faces new president

"It's up to us, working with our new president to put some sense into the whole framework of the law so it works for America," Lofgren said.
The speakers said immigration law must be reformed before the border with Mexico can be secured.
The enforcement-only strategy of the current administration is not working, they said.
The administration's plan of self-deportation, making life so miserable for immigrants that they leave of their own accord, is a non-violent form of ethnic cleansing, said Frank Sharry, executive director of America's Voice, a group that promotes immigration reform.
"What's happening is a moral outrage, and it's a policy debacle," Sharry said.
He said the conservative right wing's vilification of immigrants would alienate enough Latino and immigrant voters to give Democrats the political support they need to pass comprehensive reform.
"This is about whether we as Americans are going to include people or exclude people," Sharry said.
Marco Lopez Jr., incoming director of the Arizona Department of Commerce, said his state has partnered with Mexico to target criminals who are crossing the border and human traffickers.
But the former mayor of Nogales, Ariz., on the Mexican border, said the traffic from south of the border won't stop and the drug and human trade would continue until Congress changes the way immigration works in America.
"By doing nothing it is indeed silent amnesty," Lopez said. "People will continue to come because we need them to come."

Memo to the open-border zealots Sharry and Lofgren: enforcement has barely been tried, and what little enforcement actions have belatedly occurred have been very successful. This is why we have to step up enforcement and consistently enforce existing immigration laws.
What has failed has been the repeated amnesties over the years that have only exacerbated the problem. This is why the vast majority of Americans reject amnesty.

We need FUNDING for the border fence, the border police, and if need be, a strong US military presence at our southern border.

"What's happening is a moral outrage,
Yes, it IS a moral outrage what is happening to the American people by foreigners who are trying to take over this country and the traitorous out of control American government.
The American government allows this to happen but that doesn't make it right. The American people will not give up this country to invaders from Mexico or South America.

Enforcing America's laws is ethnic cleansing???
You people must be on the drugs coming across the border, because you have lost all common sense!
Everyone voting for Amnesty must leave their state and live on the border for 1 year
and see if they change their little minds.
Our government is ill-informed at best and ignorant most likely! If Palestine puts down their guns, there will be peace.
If Israel puts down their guns there will be no more Israel.

Agree, WorriedAmerican. I just astounds me to hear this "ethnic cleansing" term used to protect the law breakers, while at the same time I see serious ethnic cleansing going on in other parts of the world, starting with Darfur in Sudan.
Give someone who thinks he is something some attention and just watch the way the concepts start evolving into what is worst for this country and our LEGAL citizens.Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)
