Three months after one carpet maker agreed to pay $18 million to settle claims it didn’t do enough to verify the immigration status of its workers, another is being charged with demanding too much hiring documentation.

The U.S. Department of Justice is suing Garland Sales Inc., claiming the Dalton rugmaker discriminated last year against a Spanish-speaking job applicant by demanding he produce a “green card,â€

The bias of these civil rights agencies seems to always turn out in favor of the standard "minorities."

This just seems like harassment to me and a damned if you do or a damned if you don't.

I think I would said thanks for the application and we will get back to you if we choose you for a job. Or is that no longer allowed,to choose who you want to work for you.

You know this sounds like a setup to me.

I don't care who you are, how you got here, what color you are, what language/dialect you speak... If you didn't get here legally then you don't belong here. Period.

    Exactly what I was thinking!!

Just one instance of a supposed citizen being questioned, while tons of instances for purposely hiring illegals. They sent the guy there, asked him to speak only Spanish yet provide the right documents, so they can play "gotcha".

They should have just filed the application under doesn't meet our needs or experience.

Businesses beware of moles only speaking foreign languages with proper documents.

In an eight-page complaint against the company, the Executive Office for Immigration Review charged that Garland Sales improperly withdrew its job offer to Mr. Alanis after he told a company interpreter he didn’t have a green card because he is a U.S. citizen.
