The Bush-Kennedy deal on immigration is the most complicated, sweeping change in immigration law in a generation. It needs bipartisan support to pass, and unfortunately it has that support in the Senate. Many Republican senators who opposed amnesty last year are now backing it. They believe that President Bush is willing to sign any immigration bill a Democratic Congress produces, and have decided to limit the damage. Although well-intentioned members of the GOP’s “if you can’t beat them, join themâ€

    The question is-
Can we believe anything good will come from a bill that Ted Kennedy crafted?

Not with his current track record on immigration legislation. I see more broken promises.

I still remember this infamous statement.

“This amnesty will give citizenship to only 1.1 – 1.3 million illegal aliens. We will secure the borders henceforth we will never again bring forward another amnesty bill like this,â€

I'm not convinced of this. Kyle and Graham are not "many Republicans," they're two Republicans. Let's not forget, Sen. Cornyn supposedly walked away from the deal as did Sen. Menendez (for a different reason).

You've got to give Sen. Kennedy credit for being a better negotiator than Kyle. Either that or Kyle was forced into submission by the Bush administration.

I am hopeful, as more becomes known about this bill, that it will not gain the support necessary for law.
