Hatch Urges Napolitano to Maintain Border Agents

    Associated Press Associated Press Writer

    11:00 AM MDT, October 7, 2009

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Utah Sen. Orrin Hatch is asking Department of Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano to maintain or increase the number of U.S. border patrol agents. In a letter sent Tuesday, Hatch and other senators asked Napolitano to provide a written response her plans to tackle the concerns regarding border security. Hatch says a recent Government Accountability Office report on border issues acknowledges that the country's southern and northern borders are still porous and easily breached.

Hatch has recently voted for amendments in a bill that would require 700 miles of border fence with double-layer blocking barriers be funded and built.

    Thank you senators:
    Senator Orrin Hatch
    Senator Chuck Grassley
    Senator Jeff Sessions
    Senator John McCain
    Senator Tom Coburn
    Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison
    Senator Jon Kyl
    Senator John Cornyn

Out of 60 senators it is disappointing and yet not surprising that only 8 signed the letter.
