The skeletal remains of a suspected illegal immigrant were found Tuesday morning by U.S. Border Patrol agents near Sasabe.
Two agents on routine patrol came across what appeared to be the remains of a female immigrant about 9 a.m., said Rob Daniels, spokesman for the U.S. Border Patrol's Tucson Sector. There was no information as to the identity or age of the victim.
Agents notified the Pima County Sheriff's Department, which took possession of the remains.
Agents also apprehended a group of 14 illegal immigrants Tuesday morning after a routine immigration stop near Avra Valley Road, northwest of Tucson.
Agents conducted the immigration stop on a 1998 Dodge Ram, in which they found 14 illegal immigrants from Mexico, said Daniels. The truck had been reported stolen in Phoenix. The illegal immigrants were transported to the Tucson station for processing.
In fiscal 2008, the Border Patrol has made nearly 300,000 apprehensions in the Tucson Sector alone.
