GOP contender Ron Paul will not rule out third-party run

I hope this doesn't happen because it would most likely lead to a Hillary or Obama victory in November.

GOP contender will not rule out third-party run

WASHINGTON (CNN) – Texas Rep. Ron Paul refused to rule out a third party bid Sunday if he fails to win the Republican Party presidential nomination.

When Tim Russert of NBC’s 'Meet the Press' asked the Texas congressman if he’d consider an independent bid, he replied: "I have no intention of doing that."

When pressed by Russert to state unequivocally that he would not, Paul demurred. "I deserve one weasel now and then, Tim!"

Paul lost to Phil Gramm in the 1984 Texas Republican primary for the U.S. Senate. Four years later, he ran for president as the Libertarian Party nominee.

The Republican presidential contender — who has an intensely loyal national following — is pulling in record fundraising sums, prompting speculation that he may continue his White House bid even if he does not fare well among Republican primary voters.

Paul is currently averaging single-digit showings in most recent surveys of GOP voters nationally and in early-voting states.

During the Sunday interview, Paul criticized the Civil Rights Act, pointing out that Barry Goldwater opposed it. But he would not say he whether would vote against the legislation today. "I get more support from black people than any other Republican candidate, according to some statistics," he added.

Paul also contended that the Civil War had been unnecessary because the United States would have gotten rid of slavery “eventually.â€

    Third Party Run

I have tended to volunteer for Republican candidates and vote for Libertarians. This means that I voted for Ron Paul in 1984 but I would be upset if he were to run again. It would probably get a lot of votes mostly coming from the Republican side and would put someone like Clinton or Obama in office who will grant the illegal aliens an amnesty.
I support enforcement and see its lack as bad for the 3rd World as well. Remittances are now mostly spent on consumption not production assets. Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)

I watched Meet The Press this morning and could not believe how rude Tim Russert was to Dr. Paul.He repeatedly wanted to talk and attack Dr. Paul about what he said 20 years ago instead of today's issues. Also he would make remarks which were not true and not allow Dr. Paul to answer instead he would make another statement and again not allow Dr. Paul to answer.

He obviously had no intention of discussing the issues with Ron Paul but instead I saw it as a useless Hit Piece which did not allow Dr. Paul the opportuinity to discuss his views or his plan for saving America.

What Dr. Paul said about slavery was: We are the only country in the world who engaged in a civil war and suffered a terrible loss of life instead of dealing with and ending slavery like the rest of the world did peacefully.

I think it would be a great idea if Dr. Paul runs as an Independent. I have noticed lots of Ron Paul yard signs in my neighborhood. He has a huge following that the media is totally clueless about.

I agree I Think the media hasn't a clue as to the growing number of people who support Dr. Paul.

He did, however, deny several times to Tim Russert saying he has NO intentions of running as a independent it was only after Tim insisted he give him a absolutely NO answer that Dr. Paul said he did not believe in absolutes. (para phrased). He instead tried to tell Tim he is running strong in the unofficial polls and he has a chance at being President.Tim was not interested in discussing that possibility.

I saw it too, and thought the same. Russert is a slimey guy, isn't he? But I thought Ron Paul did an EXCELLENT job. He didn't let Tim run over him. After listening to Ron Paul this morning, I'm starting to understand why so many people support him.

He understands the economy; he said that illegals should not be allowed benefits, that should stop; he said that children of illegal immigrants should not automatically be awarded citizenship, that taht was NOT the intent of the amendment to the constitution when it was written; he has the right idea in my opinion of why the rest of the world and the mid-east is fed up with this country; he does not believe that the US should support Israel or other countries in the mid east, financially, on and on.

Russert tried to pin him down to the usual stupid questions like: What if Iran attacks Israel? Does the US defend Israel? Dr. Paul set the record straight by saying Iran isn't going to attack Israel. They're not set up to do that.

He made it seem like Tim Russert had asked a stupid question and said Israel had nuclear weapons, they're capable of defending themselves. No one over there is going to attack Israel in his opinion, and I agree. We're being constantly fed such bull about defending Israel. Let them defend themselves.

Ron Paul has got things right, imho. I hope he does run as an Independent.

Yes AmricansNeverQuit at times the puzzled look on Dr Pauls face at Tims stupid remarks was priceless and he chided Tim a couple times about things Tim said about Dr. Paul that were untrue.

Dr. Paul is absolutely right about Iran & Israel. He said Israel has all these nucuelar weapons and Iran has none so how could Iran be a threat to Israel ?

He also said a lot of the US Aide Money is going to rich Arab states. What kind of sense does that make especially when the price of gas Americans pay keeps going up and we are sending money in the form of Aide to those Oil Rich Arab Countries ??? Give Me A Break.

Our Government should be using the Arab Aide money to offset and lower gas prices for American Citizens instead.

Yes, we are giving money to the ME, keeping military bases there to 'protect them' - while they are holding us up on the price of oil.

I beg everyone, even if you don' t want to vote for Dr. Paul for whatever reason, think about our foreign policy. We tend to think that by approving of whatever our government does militarily and in foreign policy 'is for the good of America'. It usually isn't so.

To question foreign policy and military policy has nothing to do with our love and support for the men and women in uniform - regardless of how this administration would like to say it does.

To question our behavior in foreign policy matters, the meddling, the intererence, causing chaos, murder and mayhem in other countries, has nothing to do with 'blaming America'. Those corrupt politicians are not America.

We question them about their stand on illegal immigration - it's no different.

I watched about 5 minutes of the Ron Paul bashing as well, then decided to go out and watch the cows instead. [Getting tomorrow's weather forecast]

You know what Thomas Jefferson said, "It is error alone which needs the support of the government. Truth can stand by itself."

It literally slays me, to even think how dumb America has become. Forgive me, I mean not to slap any of you, but I believe that is why they keep slapping Ron so. They evidently have lost all Independence what so ever, and need the government or some super hero to do all their thinking for them, and telling them what to do and what to think.

Ron's ideas and views are sound and practical and could manifest with just a little help. But those are not the "Views" of the One World Order Club members. Those are not the views of the 'Corporate Washington Supporters' Club. You know, those American business' that love stabbing the American Citizen in the back.

Ron's views are Constitutionally backed and I can't for the life of me, understand why every one WOULDN'T be voting for Ron.

One funny thing to point out here I think. Most of Ron's record breaking campaign donations have been by voters per $100.00. Not the dip in my savings account and pull out what was it, $20 Million by Romney and $17 Million by Rudy I think ? And think how much "Corporate Money" they took in. How many "VOTES" did those thousands count for ?

In my own personal opinion... I think anyone but Ron Paul or Lou Dobbs being elected this next time, will just be another Business & Politics as usual and only lead to the final destruction of America. But, I'm just a Conspiracy Theorists w/Dobbsatarianism. Maybe it's time we pushed for a Nation wide innoculation of the Anti-Virus, "Ask not what your country can do for you, Ask what you can do for your country," serum, and try to help our stupid American neighbors out that have lost all thinking process' evidently.

To A Better Day America !

Wow, I missed the MTP interview this morning (7am) but just watched it in 4 parts on YouTube. I've seen Tim Russert's interviews of the other candidates and I don't think I've EVER seen him act that RUDELY to ANY of them.

Ask a question and then talk over the answer to ask another question only to talk over THAT answer as well. It looked to me like Tim was doing all he could to frustrate Dr. Paul into saying something that could be damaging to his campaign. I'm surprised that the $500 from the Nazi didn't come up again.

I thought Dr. Paul did a good job overcoming Russert's obvious desire to turn the interview into a 'gotcha' piece.
