PREMONT — Nine undocumented immigrants were taken to an area hospital with non life-threatening injuries late Tuesday after a one-vehicle accident involving a truck near Farm-to-Market Road 716 in Premont, authorities said.

U.S. Border Patrol agents were called at 11 p.m. to assist the Jim Wells County Sheriff’s Department in looking for five additional undocumented immigrants who fled the scene and later were caught, said John Lopez, spokesman for the U.S. Border Patrol Rio Grande Valley sector.

Four of the nine hospitalized had been released from the hospital Wednesday, Lopez said. All were expected to be returned to their countries of origin, he said.
