The price tag to provide medical care and security for the public at Thomason Hospital is around $1 million after 22 people suspected to be wounded in connection with the drug wars in Mexico were transported to the hospital for treatment this year.
Hospital officials, Commissioners Court and local law enforcement met on Thursday to discuss the issue of safety at the hospital, procedures for allowing the wounded people to cross the border and who should pay for the treatment and security costs.

County and hospital officials will travel to Washington, D.C. next week to discuss the issue with delegates from El Paso and the leaders of federal agencies involved, such as Homeland Security and Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
