At about 1:25 a.m. Tuesday, Border Patrol agents spotted a 30-foot boat unloading passengers on Cardiff State Beach.

In conjunction with the Sheriff's Department, agents responded to the beach and arrested 19 men, three women, and two boys, ages 16 and 17, all Mexicans.

They also caught up to the boat and arrested three men about two miles west of the beach. The names of the suspects are not available, Conlin said.

Typically, at least three people are kept for a short time as material witnesses, Conlin said.

The rest have the option of returning to Mexico voluntarily or asking for an immigration hearing.

CARDIFF-BY-THE-SEA — Two dozen people who entered the country illegally were detained early yesterday on Cardiff State Beach, the Border Patrol said.

Agents spotted a 30-foot panga fishing boat drop off 19 men, three women and two teenage boys, ages 16 and 17, about 1:25 a.m., the Border Patrol said.

Sheriff’s deputies assisted Border Patrol agents in apprehending the group.

At sea, a U.S. Customs and Border Protection vessel stopped the panga about 2 miles west of Cardiff State Beach. Three men from Mexico were arrested on suspicion of human smuggling, the Border Patrol said.

The 24 people detained on the beach were to be processed by immigration officials and were expected to be deported.

Border Patrol, Air and Marine Coordinated Effort in California Results in Arrest of 24

    (Tuesday, November 10, 2009)

Cardiff-by-the-Sea, Calif. – Three men are being held in federal custody for alien smuggling charges after they illegally transported two dozen Mexican nationals by sea to Cardiff State Beach early this morning.

At about 1:25 a.m., U.S. Border Patrol agents spotted a 30-foot panga boat as it came ashore. Upon observing several individuals exit the boat, the agents, along with San Diego Sheriff’s Deputies, responded and apprehended 19 men, three women, and two boys, ages 16 and 17, all of whom were illegally in the country.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection Marine Interdiction agents later located and stopped the boat used in the smuggling incident about two miles west of Cardiff State Beach. The agents arrested three male Mexican nationals aboard the boat.

The three men have been charged for alien smuggling by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

The integration of personnel, resources, and prosecution efforts from the involved law enforcement agencies acts as a force multiplier to prevent the smuggling of humans, drugs, and other contraband along the coastal border in the San Diego region.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection is the unified border agency within the Department of Homeland Security charged with the management, control and protection of our nation's borders at and between the official ports of entry. CBP is charged with keeping terrorists and terrorist weapons out of the country while enforcing hundreds of U.S. laws.

ACLU and La Raza will soon claim it is "Profiling" to stop and inquire about ones immigration status just because they were observed to be getting off a boat.
