    Happy Birthday USA, as of July 4th!

    You'd think that after 232 years of existence as a free nation, the United States of America would have perfected the means of protecting the borders and securing its sovereign territory against illegal intrusion.

    You might think so, and you might expect it – but, no.

    The U.S. might as well fling open the borders and say – to paraphrase the game show host – "Come on in."

    If Uncle Sam added, "Everything is free and it's all yours," it wouldn't be much different than what exists now.

    Making it worse, media pander to illegals with the ongoing pretense that sneaking into the country, living below the radar, working illegally, driving illegally, taking advantage of welfare and social services meant for citizens – and on and on – is normal.

    Here's a perfect example of the lunacy. It's from an article in the San Francisco Chronicle on July 4, by two reporters from the Riverside Press-enterprise in Southern California.

    The first line of the story:

    "Deymi Barrios, a 25-year-old mom and illegal immigrant, had her car towed from a checkpoint in the Riverside County community of Romoland for driving without a license."

    Notice they used the word "mom" – warm and fuzzy.

    The article continued about how the woman "wrestled car seats from her Ford Focus as her two young children cried. ..."

    More "warm and fuzzy" – wrestling with car seats, crying children. Cops are such meanies.

    But then Barrios outdid herself.

    Sit down before you read this.

    Speaking in Spanish, the woman said she understood why her car was impounded by sheriff's deputies.

    "I know that the law is the law. But because I don't have papers, I can't get a license."

    Interesting. She knows it's against the law to drive without a license, but she does it anyway. Apparently she missed the concept that it's also against the law to sneak across our borders. She came here illegally from Mexico seven years ago.

    However, it's also against the law for illegals to work in this country as she and her husband do.

    The newspaper continued its powder-puff coverage by relating Barrio's concern that it might cost $1,000 to retrieve the car from impound.

    She lamented, "We'll probably have to cut our telephone service."

    Awwww.

    She went on, "The only thing that could have made this worse is if immigration was here."

    Pity. Had they been, she could face deportation.

    Immigration agents are often part of such traffic stops in that area, enabling the law to solve two problems: getting unlicensed drivers off the streets and getting illegals out of the country – where they belong.

    ICE agents were at two checkpoints where 35 people were arrested for immigration violations.

    At a March 27 checkpoint, nine people were taken into custody for no valid license; eight opted for voluntary deportation and one requested a hearing. At a December checkpoint, agents arrested 26.

    Luz Gallegos, of the TODEC Legal Center in Perris, told the newspaper such checkpoints put "an illegal immigrant at risk of being stranded or deported just driving to work."

    Hey, they're here illegally, driving illegally and working illegally. Am I missing something?!

    But stupid they're not. These people are of no mind to cooperate. Gallegos says that when people spot the checkpoints, they call Spanish radio stations, which broadcast the locations.

    Now that should be illegal!

    Our borders are like sieves. We talk a good line about "security," but despite the decent and brave efforts of the Border Patrol – was there ever a more thankless job? – thousands of illegals cross our borders every day, and too many people don't care. That means everyone from:

    you or your neighbor if you hire illegals;

    employers of every stripe who spout the usual tripe about not being able to hire "citizens" or "legal" immigrants;

    mayors of cities small and large – attention San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom – who allow their municipalities to become "sanctuary cities," which means they aid and abet the breaking of federal immigration laws and protect illegals who are, in fact, criminals;

    every citizen who doesn't complain loudly to every politician to secure our borders;

    elected officials, from both parties on every level, who pander for votes. They say, from one side of their mouths, that they support "securing" the border, while the other side of their mouths speak about "a pathway to citizenship" and a "temporary worker program" as though they were the same and as though people who break our laws on every level should be "given" an easier route to the most valuable possession of every real American – real citizenship in this, the most free but, at this point, the most stupid country on the planet!
    Want more proof?

    State Sen. Gilbert Cedillo, a Los Angeles Democrat who knows illegals and their political importance, says he'll "solve" the safety problem of unlicensed drivers. He plans to introduce – again – a bill to license illegals.

    A friend told me she went to her town's July 4th fireworks program – a big U.S. flag on the stage, lots of music but nothing patriotic – and the mayor said a few words.

    The non-partisan mayor – a member of the Green Party – said the obligatory words to show off her patriotism, adding her own twist:

    "God bless America. And, God bless the planet."

    Only in America. Please, God, help us.
