Illegal immigrant's body discovered near Amado

Tucson, Arizona | Published: 07.02.2009

A Border Patrol agent found the body of an illegal immigrant near Amado on Tuesday, but because of the rain the man's body wasn't retrieved until Wednesday afternoon, Santa Cruz County Sheriff Tony Estrada said.
The body was found in a fairly remote area west of Amado that wasn't accessible by foot or ATV, Estrada said. It was airlifted to a mortuary by the Department of Public Safety's helicopter on Wednesday, authorities said.
Amado is about 40 miles south of Tucson.
Estrada said he couldn't yet release the man's identity, but he said he knew the man weighed more than 200 pounds and was from the Mexican state of Hidalgo. He said that no foul play is suspected and that the man probably died from the extreme heat.
The sheriff said this is the 19th body of an illegal immigrant found in Santa Cruz County this calendar year. Another 11 illegal immigrants died in a car accident within the county, he added.
