School employees to learn immigration checks
    Claudia Lauer - clauer@thesunnews.com

Horry County Schools will host a seminar Thursday morning from 8 a.m. to 11: 30 p.m. to teach construction employees how to verify immigration status of potential workers online.

The seminar comes as a result of changes in state illegal immigration prevention laws. The Office of Construction Management will host the seminar at the Academy for Technology and Academics, located at the intersection of S.C. 22 and U.S. 701. All subcontractors and construction employees are required to attend the meeting.

The Illegal Immigration Reform Act states that as of Jan. 1, 2009, public employers cannot enter into contracts with contractors unless they agree to verify the work and citizenship status of all of their employees through an e-verify program.

South Carolina is an interesting mix

I wonder if they have had any backlash over their choice of Chinese contractors to build on the University Campus....It is about time someone did something...
