Judge sets $50K bond in federal smuggling case

Judge sets $50K bond in federal smuggling case

    February 23, 2018 10:01 pm

A man from Veracruz, Mexico, is facing federal smuggling charges after U.S. Border Patrol agents caught him on remote surveillance cameras leading a group of undocumented immigrants from Mexico through a gap in the border fence, according to federal authorities.

Emanuel Morales-Montejo, born in 1999, made his first appearance in federal court Friday morning.

Border Patrol agents arrested Morales-Montejo around 9 p.m. Feb. 21, when a Border Patrol agent assigned to a remote surveillance camera spotted a group of seven individuals heading north from the Rio Grande toward a gap in the border fence near the area of Flor De Mayo, according to a criminal complaint.

Border Patrol agents in the area were advised and responded to the location as the remote surveillance operator continued monitoring the group’s movement, court documents show.

Eventually, the Border Patrol agents intercepted the group in a plowed field north of the border fence, according to the criminal complaint.

All of the individuals were from Mexico, and two implicated Morales-Montejo as the smuggler, court documents show.

During his initial appearance Friday, U.S. Magistrate Judge Ronald Morgan set a $50,000 cash bond on the condition that Morales-Montejo satisfy his immigration detainer and establish substantial ties to the community, according to court records.

A preliminary examination hearing is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Feb. 28 in front of Morgan, court records show.

What does this mean, "establish substantial ties to the community"? What community? Not ours I hope. These judges are morons. What happens to the illegal aliens he was smuggling in, please don't tell me they're still here as "witnesses".
