Chase of Illegal Immigrants Ends in Crash
Reported by Marco Gonzalez

A violent end to a high speed pursuit through the streets of Rio Grande City. Lorenzo Guerrero, a Rio Grande City resident for 15 years, witnessed the crash.

“The car was flying down the street. Crossing lanes and doing about 80mph.

Chief Dutch Piper responded to the scene.

“Narcotics officers got the call. They began a pursuit just west of Rio Grande City."

A green sedan, carrying six illegal immigrants came to a crashing halt at the intersection of E. Main and N. East Street.

“We had one of the investigators giving chase and he crashed into the railings - probably from Honduras, said Chief Piper.

Three of the passengers fled on foot, but were later caught. As for the driver, he and three others were treated at the scene and taken to a local hospital.

Traffic was backed up for miles as investigators combed through the wreckage.

“We had a lot of congestion in the streets. A lot of people were stopping. You can see, it's a one-way.

Lorenzo Guerrero says it's an all too familiar sight.

“Right now we have a lot of people coming from Brazil, like last night I saw 14 illegals outside the fire department. We're tired of all these people coming in, and the drugs. We hope someone does something about it.
