    Tonight, the autoworkers union and the country’s biggest car
    maker have reached an agreement. The strike is over and the
    assembly lines are running again. Did the UAW get a good deal
    for its members? Are their jobs secure?

    GM will make a one-time payment of $35 billion to the shift the
    healthcare obligations for active and retired workers to the
    union and take those costs off its own books. The UAW now must
    manage that fund to make sure it meets its obligations to union
    members. GM says it’s happy. The union says its happy. But lost
    in all the happiness is the fact that the fund is a very big
    gamble, and Wall Street is licking its chops in anticipation of
    the big fund it will get paid to manage. We’ll have a special
    report tonight.
