Suspected illegal immigrants stopped on I-89

U.S. Border Patrol agents Thursday on Interstate 89 arrested four people from Jamaica suspected of violating immigration laws.
Vermont State Police received a call at about 9:20 p.m. that a car was traveling 15-25 mph northbound on the interstate, and at one point came to an abrupt stop in the left lane on the Winooski bridge.
An off-duty Colchester police officer located and followed the car until a Milton police cruiser joined in the pursuit and stopped the car north of Exit 17. The driver, Noel McDonald, 26, furnished a Jamaican driver’s license and said he was unfamiliar with driving on the interstate, believed he was heading to Vergennes and had only been in the United States for about a month, police said.
Police called in U.S. Border Patrol, who determined McDonald, passengers Sherine Williams, 23, and Jean Rodney, 44, and a friend who showed up at the scene, Kevin Peterkin, 39, all of Jamaica had violated immigration laws.
