Police say the man who allegedly stabbed a young mother to death inside a Massachusetts apartment complex Monday may be in the country illegally, MyFoxBoston.com reports.
Marcela Almeida, 41, was arrested for allegedly stabbing 24-year-old Patricia Frois during a domestic dispute inside their apartment in Marshfield.
Almeida reportedly fled the crime scene, sparking a massive manhunt and causing at least three area schools to go on lockdown.
Authorities later found Almeida hiding in a backyard shed not far from the crime scene, according to the website.
Almeida's citizenship status is now under investigation by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Police say the man has a Brazilian passport and that immigration officials have no record of anyone under his name having entered the country legally.

MARSHFIELD, Mass -- Police were trying to determine the identity of the suspect in a deadly murder in Marshfield, Monday. The man had a fake I.D. and sources are saying the man is an illegal immigrant.
The suspect, Marcello Almeida, had given a fake Brazilian license three years ago when he was pulled over for speeding. Tuesday he faced murder charges.
The 41-year-old illegal immigrant was arrested Monday in connection with the fatal stabbing of his girl friend, 24-year-old Patricia Frios, at a Marshfield apartment complex.
Almeida had been stopped more than once on the South Shore and was cited for operating without a license.
[b]“The suspect from yesterday’s stabbing, we dealt with in April of 2008 and November of 2008 for unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle. It is my understanding that the Scituate police department just dealt with him for the same type of crime,â€Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)

MARSHFIELD (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) - A murder investigation is underway in Marshfield, where a young mother was allegedly stabbed to death by her ex-boyfriend. Police say the suspect may be in this country illegally.
Marcelo Almeida, 41, was arrested Monday morning following a massive manhunt.
Police say Almeida stabbed 24-year-old Patricia Frois during a domestic dispute inside their apartment complex, then went on the run. He was eventually found hiding in a backyard shed not far from the scene.
Those who knew the victim say the couple had recently broken up. Family and friends also told FOX 25 the couple had a history of violence.
Police say Almeida stabbed his ex-girlfriend several times because he couldn't handle the breakup.
Almeida was injured and was taken to the hospital. His citizenship status is now under investigation by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
Police say Almeida has a Brazilian passport and that immigration officials have no record of anyone under his name having entered the country legally.
Records indicate that the visa number on the passport bearing Almeida's name and photo was issued to a Kuwaiti female in Beruit in 2003.
The couple reportedly has a 5-year-old son in their native Brazil.
Almeida and Frois shared an apartment for the last couple of years, but when they broke up, Frois moved into another apartment temporarily with a friend.
Frois was leaving the apartment Monday morning heading to work, and that's when police say Almeida caught up with her in the hallway and stabbed her several times. Two close friends told FOX 25 they witnessed the murder.
"It's horrible, but it's horrible on its own," Gov. Deval Patrick said. "It's horrible because of the violence and the loss to that community and to that family."
FOX 25's Tyisha Fernandes asked Gov. Patrick whether the recent crimes involving illegal immigrants draws more attention to the fact that we need to do something more with illegal immigration.
"Well, I've said before, we need comprehensive immigration reform," he said. "But I think we also need to be careful not to paint too broad a brush. There are separate issues here about the violence, for which we have laws, and control and compliance with our existing laws around immigration, around which a lot of folks feel there isn't enough rigor at the federal level."

Illegal immigrant in murder case had prior arrest
By Maria Sacchetti
September 28, 2011
Scituate police arrested an illegal immigrant from Brazil for motor-vehicle violations three months before he allegedly stabbed his former girlfriend to death in a brutal attack this week, reigniting debate over whether Massachusetts should participate in the federal Secure Communities program.
Police arrested Marcelo Almeida, a 41-year-old laborer, on June 19 on charges of operating without a license and other charges after the black Nissan Maxima he was driving almost collided head on with a police car, according to documents from Hingham District Court. He was later found guilty of unlicensed driving and responsible for other charges. Almeida paid a fine and was released.
But US Immigration and Customs Enforcement had not heard of him until Monday, when he allegedly stabbed 24-year-old Patricia Frois to death in a Marshfield apartment building and questions emerged about whether Immigration and Customs had arrested him earlier. Almeida, who also suffered injuries, was in South Shore Hospital last night pending arraignment on murder charges.
Yesterday, immigration officials placed a detainer on Almeida and said that the Secure Communities program would have automatically checked his fingerprints and flagged him for possible deportation.
Secure Communities, a federal program intended to identify illegal immigrants if they are arrested by local law enforcement, has been a hot-button issue in Massachusetts, where Governor Deval Patrick has opposed it. Critics say the program is deporting immigrants with no criminal records and could lead to ethnic profiling. Supporters believe it is a valuable tool to detect dangerous illegal immigrants.
“Though Mr. Almedia was previously encountered by local law enforcement in Scituate, Mass., ICE was never notified of his arrest or his unlawful presence in the United States,’’ said agency spokesman Ross Feinstein.
Even without Secure Communities, police could have contacted the agency through the 24-hour Law Enforcement Support Center to check Almeida’s identity or contacted immigration officers in Massachusetts - but they did not, officials said.
When Scituate police stopped Almeida in June, the officer determined that Almeida was born in Brazil and did not have a valid entry stamp in his Brazilian passport. Police also discovered that he had a citation from Pembroke police for driving without a license, in October 2010, court documents said.
This week, after Frois’s death, the Plymouth district attorney’s office said Almeida had two passports, and one had a visa number that had been issued to a Kuwaiti woman in Beirut in 2003.
Scituate Police Chief Brian E. Stewart declined to comment yesterday, referring questions to Hingham District Court.
Senator Richard Moore, Democrat of Uxbridge, yesterday called Frois’s death another example of how the federal Secure Communities program might have helped deter a crime.
But advocates for immigrants doubted that the agency would have acted to deport Almeida for minor driving charges since the agency’s priority is to deport serious criminals.
