U.S. Border Patrol Weekly Blotter (09/01/2010)

Border Patrol agents seized over 7,828 pounds of marijuana. Agents arrested eight criminal aliens and eight gang members. There were two rocking incidents.

El Centro Sector – Border Patrol agents were assaulted with rocks and fired upon near Calexico, California. Agents were attempting to arrest four suspected illegal aliens when they were assaulted by rock throwers near the international border fence. Agents deployed less lethal munitions and the assaulters and suspected illegal aliens fled into Mexico. Agents then heard four to five gun shots fired from Mexico in their direction.


El Paso Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Fabens, Texas. Records checks revealed the subject was a Sureño gang member with an extensive criminal history. The subject had also been previously removed from the United States.

El Paso Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Sunland Park, New Mexico. During processing, the subject admitted to being a Sureño gang member. Records checks revealed he had an extensive criminal history and had been previously removed from the United States.


Havre Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested a United States Citizen (USC) near Sunburst, Montana. Records checks revealed the subject was a fugitive who had escaped from the Montana Department of Corrections in Great Falls, Montana.


Houlton Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 102 pounds of marijuana, a Ruger .380 caliber handgun, a Chevrolet pickup, and arrested two USCs at the traffic checkpoint near Orono, Maine. The subjects presented themselves for inspection and a Border Patrol canine alerted to the truck. A search by agents revealed the marijuana and the weapon.


San Diego Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near San Ysidro, California. During processing, the subject admitted to being a Mara Salvatrucha 13 (MS-13) gang member, and records checks revealed he had been previously removed from the United States.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 146 pounds of marijuana, a Ford Focus, and arrested a USC near Rio Rico, Arizona. The subject drove away at a high rate of speed after observing a marked Border Patrol vehicle. The subject subsequently lost control of his vehicle and struck an unmarked Border Patrol vehicle that was sitting on the side of the road. A search of the subject’s vehicle revealed the marijuana.

Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 580 pounds of marijuana, a vehicle, and arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Weslaco, Texas. Several individuals were observed loading a vehicle with bundles of suspected contraband when the subject drove off at a high rate of speed. Shortly thereafter, agents discovered the vehicle upside down in a nearby field. Several bundles of marijuana were recovered from the roadway and the remainder was recovered from the vehicle.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Amado, Arizona. Records checks revealed the subject had a prior conviction for rape of a child in the state of Washington and had been previously removed from the United States.

El Centro Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from El Salvador near Calexico, California. Records checks revealed the subject had a prior conviction for rape by force and an active arrest warrant for a sex offense in the state of California.


Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 1,660 pounds of marijuana, a tractor-trailer, and arrested a USC at the traffic checkpoint near Falfurrias, Texas. The subject presented himself for inspection and a Border Patrol canine alerted to the trailer. A scan using non-intrusive inspection technology revealed anomalies in the trailer and a search by agents uncovered the marijuana.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 1,408 pounds of marijuana from an abandoned vehicle near Hickiwan, Arizona. Agents followed tire sign to the abandoned vehicle and a search revealed the marijuana inside.


Yuma Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Somerton, Arizona. Records checks revealed the subject had an active warrant of arrest in the state of Oregon for murder and a federal warrant for flight to avoid apprehension.

Miami Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested a national of Jordan at the Greyhound bus station near West Palm Beach, Florida. Records checks revealed the subject had an extensive criminal history and had been previously ordered removed from the United States.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico who claimed to have left his wife and son behind in the desert near Gu Vo, Arizona. Agents initiated a search and rescue operation, and were able to locate the subjects. The child was transported by local emergency medical services to a hospital for treatment.

Laredo Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 1,153 pounds of marijuana, a 1994 Freightliner tractor-trailer, and arrested a USC at the traffic checkpoint near Laredo, Texas. The subject presented himself for inspection and a Border Patrol canine alerted to the trailer. A subsequent search by agents revealed the marijuana inside.


Marfa Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 1.25 pounds of marijuana, a loaded .22 caliber handgun, a loaded .45 caliber handgun, assorted rounds of ammunition, a 1996 Ford Mustang, and arrested a USC at the traffic checkpoint near Sierra Blanca, Texas. The subject presented himself for inspection and a Border Patrol canine alerted to the vehicle. A subsequent search by agents revealed the contraband.


San Diego Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested a national of Iran near San Diego, California. Records checks revealed the subject had a prior felony conviction for burglary.


Swanton Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested a national of Somalia near Peru, New York. Records checks revealed the subject had two prior felony convictions.

Del Rio Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 2,477 pounds of marijuana, a tractor-trailer, and arrested a USC at the traffic checkpoint near Eagle Pass, Texas. The subject presented himself for inspection and a Border Patrol canine alerted to the trailer. A subsequent search by agents revealed the contraband inside the trailer.


Yuma Sector – Border Patrol agents responded to a citizen’s report of an airplane crash near Yuma, Arizona. Agents conducted a search and located the aircraft and its sole occupant. Agents provided first aid until emergency medical services arrived on the scene.
