U.S. Border Patrol Weekly Blotter: (10/13/2010)

Border Patrol agents seized over 14,434 pounds of marijuana, 237.55 pounds of cocaine and 5.32 pounds of heroin. Agents arrested 6 criminal aliens and 5 gang members. There were 5 rocking incidents.

El Paso Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested a United States Citizen (USC) at the traffic checkpoint near Las Cruces, New Mexico. Records checks revealed the subject had an active arrest warrant for sexual battery and sexual activity with a child issued in the state of Florida.


Miami Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from El Salvador and an illegal alien from Peru near Dania Beach, Florida. Records checks revealed the subject from El Salvador was a registered sex offender in the state of Florida, and the subject from Peru had a prior conviction for conspiracy to distribute heroin/cocaine. Both subjects had been previously removed from the United States.


Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 2,468 pounds of marijuana, a tractor-trailer, and arrested a USC at the traffic checkpoint near Falfurrias, Texas. A Border Patrol canine alerted to the vehicle and a subsequent search revealed the marijuana hidden inside.


Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 5.32 pounds of heroin and arrested a USC at the traffic checkpoint near Sarita, Texas. The subject was a passenger on a commercial bus, and a Border Patrol canine alerted to his bag. A search of the bag revealed the heroin.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 1,046 pounds of marijuana and recovered a stolen Chevrolet pickup truck near Amado, Arizona. The vehicle was observed attempting to circumvent a Border Patrol traffic checkpoint, and agents responded to the area. The truck was found abandoned with the marijuana inside.

Blaine Sector – A Border Patrol agent, assisted by two civilians, attempted to rescue the victim of a car accident near Sequim, Washington. The victim's car drove off a bluff, falling 50 feet into the ocean. The agent and civilians attempted to extricate the victim from the car with no success. The agent remained in the water with the victim and was able to coordinate local emergency medical services (EMS) response. The agent continued to assist rescue personnel after their arrival on scene. The victim was extracted from the vehicle and transported to a local hospital via U.S. Coast Guard helicopter. The victim later succumbed to serious injuries received during the crash.


Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 1,840 pounds of marijuana and a Chevrolet van near La Casita, Texas. Agents observed several subjects loading suspected narcotics into the vehicle. When agents approached, the driver abandoned the vehicle and absconded. The marijuana was discovered inside the vehicle.


Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 2,320 pounds of marijuana and a rifle at a residence near La Rosita, Texas. Border Patrol agents and Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents obtained a search warrant for the residence. The marijuana and the rifle were discovered upon execution of the search warrant.


Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 1,105 pounds of marijuana and two vehicles near Los Ebanos, Texas. Agents observed several subjects loading suspected narcotics into the vehicles. When agents approached, the subjects abandoned the vehicles and absconded. The marijuana was discovered inside the vehicles.


Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from El Salvador near Mission, Texas. During processing, the subject admitted to being an 18th Street gang member. Records check revealed the subject had been previously removed from the United States.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Pisinemo, Arizona. Records checks revealed the subject had a prior felony conviction for sex with a minor in the state of California, and had been previously removed from the United States.

Del Rio Sector – Border Patrol agents encountered two nationals of Mexico near Uvalde, Texas. The subjects were encountered during a vehicle stop after a lookout alert had indicated the subjects may have been involved in a shootout with Mexican law enforcement officials in Mexico. Agents noticed that the passenger had multiple gunshot wounds, and then rendered first aid until local EMS arrived. The wounded subject was airlifted to a local hospital.


Yuma Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from El Salvador near Blythe, California. During processing, the subject admitted to being a Mara Salvatrucha (MS-13) gang member. Records checks revealed the subject had a prior felony conviction for transportation of narcotics.

Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 237.55 pounds of cocaine, a tractor-trailer, and arrested two USCs at the traffic checkpoint near Falfurrias, Texas. A Border Patrol canine alerted to the vehicle and a subsequent search revealed the cocaine.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 318 pounds of marijuana, a .38 caliber semi-automatic pistol, and arrested four illegal aliens from Mexico near Ajo, Arizona. A backpack containing the fully loaded weapon with three full magazines was found with the aliens and the marijuana. Records checks revealed that two of the subjects had been previously removed from the United States.

El Centro Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Honduras near Ocotillo, California. During processing, the subject admitted to being a Sureño gang member. Records checks revealed the subject had an extensive criminal history and had been previously removed from the United States.


Laredo Sector – Border Patrol agents discovered an abandoned bag containing three AK-47 rifles near Laredo, Texas.


Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 3,586 pounds of marijuana, a tractor-trailer, and arrested a USC at the traffic checkpoint near Sarita, Texas. A Border Patrol canine alerted to the tractor-trailer and a subsequent search revealed the marijuana concealed inside.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 1,751 pounds of marijuana and a Chevrolet truck near Gunsight, Arizona. Agents discovered the marijuana and vehicle abandoned on the Tohono O'odham Indian Nation.

San Diego Sector – A Border Patrol agent was assaulted by unidentified subject throwing rocks near Imperial Beach, California. The agent deployed his Border Patrol issued pepperball launching system, dispersing the attackers who retreated into Mexico.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents rescued and arrested three illegal aliens from Mexico near Ajo, Arizona. Agents received a transferred 911 call from a subject claiming to be lost and in distress in the desert. Based on information gathered during the telephone call, agents initiated a search and rescue operation and located the three subjects approximately five hours later. None of the subjects required advanced medical treatment.

During processing, the subject was identified as a member of the Santa Nita street gang based in Santa Ana, California. Records checks revealed the subject had an extensive criminal history and had been previously removed from the United States.


San Diego Sector – Border Patrol agents were assaulted by unidentified subjects throwing rocks near Otay Mesa, California. Agents deployed their Border Patrol issued pepperball launching system and dispersed the attackers who retreated further into Mexico.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Sasabe, Arizona. Records checks revealed the subject had a prior conviction for 2nd degree rape in the state of New York, and had been previously removed from the United States.
