Scottsboro Police Chief Ralph Dawe announced Wednesday that his department, with the help of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), has identified and detained another illegal immigrant in the area.

The man, 44-year-old Job Villasenor Hernandez, was arrested by Scottsboro police on April 10. He was charged with DUI (driving under the influence).

When Hernandez could not provide proper documentation the department asked for assistance from ICE.

"ICE has placed a detainer on him," Dawe said. "They are going to deport him."

The program of reporting suspicious individuals to ICE for verification that the subject is in the United States legally has been successful, according to Dawe. Several illegal immigrants have been deported since the department became involved in the partnership with the federal agency last year.

"It's slowed down quite a bit. As we get them we're sending them to ICE for verification," Dawe said.
