NAMPA — A Nampa man believed to be a member of a street gang will serve seven months in federal prison for illegal re-entry. Sergio Colin-Martinez, 21, was sentenced Monday by U.S. District Judge Edward J. Lodge at the federal courthouse in Boise. He will be deported when his sentence is complete. Colin-Martinez had been convicted of crimes in Canyon County and repeatedly entered the United States illegally, according to federal attorneys prosecuting the case.
Colin-Martinez was arrested as part of Operation Street Sweeper, a joint effort of the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) and the Treasure Valley Metro Gang and Violent Crimes Task Force.
He admitted illegally entering the United States at least five different times. Previously, he had been convicted of petit theft, possession of drug paraphernalia and resisting and obstructing police in Canyon County.
The case was investigated by the Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), ATF and the Metro Task Force. It was prosecuted by the Special Assistant United States Attorney hired by the Treasure Valley Partners to combat gang-related crime in Idaho.
Colin-Martinez’s prosecution was part of Idaho’s Project Safe Neighborhoods Program and the U.S. Department of Justice’s Anti-Gang Initiative.
