Kane County, Illinois Getting 287(g)?
Immigration trend headed here?

A recent announcement from a neighboring county’s top cop has reignited the question of local immigration enforcement here.
Lake County Sheriff Mark Curran made headlines early last week by announcing that he recently had submitted an application for the so-called 287 (g) program, a federal program that trains local law-enforcement officers to begin deportation proceedings against illegal immigrants convicted of certain crimes.

The program has raised the ire of immigrant activists, who say it would increase racial profiling and make immigrants less likely to report crimes against them.
Curran said recently that the training would go to the detention officers who were in the jail and who processed and supervised inmates.

Since 2005, McHenry County has hosted an Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer, Nygren said. The county jail gives the federal government holding space for detainees, and in return, the federal officer handles deportation proceedings out of the jail.
Does this mean that local police officers can detain someone for being a criminal illegal? Or does it just mean that immigration deports their detainees from his jail. If it is only immigration catching and detaining the criminals, I'm not sure that does all that much good for the area.Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)
