ICE El Paso deports previously deported illegal alien wanted for 2013 'femicide' and aggravated assault of 9-year-old boy in Mexico
May 9, 2017
EL PASO, Texas — A Mexican fugitive, who had been previously deported three times, and is wanted for the murder of a mother and the assault of her young son, was deported again Thursday by officers with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO).
Eduardo Maquitico-Guerrero, 40, was turned over to Mexican authorities May 4 at the international boundary on top of El Paso’s Stanton International Bridge. He is wanted in Morelos, Mexico, for the murder of Karla Yuridia Tavares Jimenez, who was shot in the head, and the aggravated assault of her young son, according to the Mexican arrest warrant. The body of Tavares Jimenez was found on the side of a road April 20, 2013.
On or about July 2010, Maquitico-Guerrero illegally entered the United States through Arizona. On April 4, 2011, ERO Atlanta placed an immigration detainer on him at the Gwinnett County (Georgia) Police Department following his arrest for possessing amphetamine. He was convicted of that felony charge May 20, 2011, and was sentenced to four years’ probation.
An immigration judge ordered Maquitico-Guerrero removed to Mexico on June 10, 2011. ICE officers deported him three times between 2011 and 2016.
On April 6, 2017, the U.S. District Court in the Western District of Texas, El Paso Division, convicted Maquitico-Guerrero for illegally re-entering the U.S. after being deported (a felony). The following day, the Mexican attorney general’s office notified ERO El Paso of the arrest warrant issued for Maquitico-Guerrero by a judge in Morelos, Mexico, for “femicide” and aggravated assault. Mexican authorities requested ERO’s assistance in turning Maquitico-Guerrero over to Mexican law enforcement officials at the time of removal. Femicide is the killing of a woman or girl because of her gender.
Since Oct. 1, 2009, ERO has removed more than 1,789 foreign fugitives from the United States who were sought in their native countries for serious crimes, including kidnapping, rape and murder. ERO works with the ICE Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) Office of International Operations, foreign consular offices in the United States, and Interpol to identify foreign fugitives illegally present in the United States. Members of the public who have information about foreign fugitives are urged to contact ICE by calling the ICE tip line at 1 (866) 347-2423 or internationally at 001-1802-872-6199. They can also file a tip online by completing ICE’s online tip form.
ERO coordinates the removal of criminals, foreign fugitives and others ordered deported. Last year alone, ERO removed 240,255 individuals from the United States. ICE is focused on smart and effective immigration enforcement that prioritizes its resources based on those who pose the biggest threat to national security, border security and public safety.
