AP Interview: Mexican president says Obama should fix economy first, then immigration

MEXICO CITY (AP) -- President Felipe Calderon said Thursday he knows Barack Obama is committed to immigration reform, but that the best thing the American president can do -- even for Mexicans -- is to fix the U.S. economy.

In an interview with The Associated Press, Calderon said his pragmatism dictates that "the priority right now is to re-establish some kind of order in the economy."

"Immigration reform is a commitment of President Obama; I know that and he told me that, and it could be a very good thing to do in favor of Mexico and other nations," Calderon said in English. "But the best thing that President Obama and his government could do in favor of Mexico and the region is to solve the economic problem in the U.S."

Calderon also said Mexico and the United States need to focus on creating jobs for all of their people rather than on stopping people from crossing borders. He said the economies cannot be separated.

"The American economy has abundant capital, and the Mexican economy is abundant in labor. One is a large economy, the other is a small economy. We are sharing 3,000 kilometers of border," he said. "So it's impossible to try to stop some kind of integration between these factors of production."

Calderon said more jobs in Mexico will prevent Mexicans from heading north.

"I don't want to be a president watching, everyday, Mexican people trying to cross the border. I don't want to see in the future my country losing, everyday, the best of our people," Calderon said. "And I say the best of our people, because migrants to the U.S. are the youngest people, the bravest people, the hardest workers, and we need all of them here."

"Every single migrant to the United States is one family that is losing the father, or one family that is losing a son," he added. "We are losing leadership. We are losing courage."

Sorry, buddy, but you've got this backwards. We can't even begin to fix our economy until we get rid of the illegal aliens who are stealing our jobs and costing us hundred of billions of dollars every year in this country. Fix your own problems in Mexico, Mr. Calderon, and we wouldn't have such a problem here.

Calderon leads by example. What a joke!

Calderon is right, Obama does need to fix our economy. Obama can start by enforcing our immigration laws, deporting illegals, applying attrition strategies and stop the "Anchor Baby" scam in motion.

    PS
It is interesting to note that Calderon has done such an incredible job in Mexico so he can dictate to others based on the results of his leadership-NOT!

Certainly Calderon is worried about our economy as it directly affects the amount of money his Mexican send home every day to the Mexican economy. After all that is the country of Mexico's biggest source of income. In the mean time he can keep sending thousands of them over the US border illegally each day to add more money to their economy.

Mexico's president today denied that Mexico is a failed state. President Felipe Calderon said his government has not lost control of any part of Mexican territory to the warring drug cartels. President Calderon said the United States should do more to fight corruption north of the border

LOL!! This coming from the President of a country in which you cannot even turn on a tap and get a drink of water without becoming deathly ill! The arrogance displayed by this country would be truly laughable if it didn't have the potential to destroy our country in the process!

Hey felipe! Deliver potable water to your citizens and then we can talk about what the US needs to do to fix our problems! Until such time...buzz off!!
