House Passes Illegal Immigration Bill

The Alabama legislator is cracking down on illegal immigrants working for the state.

Thursday, the House passed a bill 92-0 to fine contractors that knowing hire illegals for state projects.

Contractors who do choose to hire them could face a fine up to three percent of the contract value.

It could put contractors out thousands of dollars.

State Representative Ronald Grantland of Hartselle introduced the bill.

"The bill requires contractors that do business with the state of Alabama to certify in writing they will not hire illegals, unauthorized aliens," said Grantland.

Now the bill will go to the Senate for a vote.
