AZ SB 1070 hearing to be televised by C-SPAN 11/1

Immigration hearing to be televised by C-SPAN

    Oct. 13, 2010 06:44 AM
    Associated Press

C-SPAN has won permission to bring up to two video cameras into an appeals court hearing in Gov. Jan Brewer's appeal of a ruling that put parts of Arizona's new immigration law on hold.

The network had asked the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco for permission to televise arguments from both sides at the Nov. 1 hearing.

The court's order lets C-SPAN broadcast the hearing live.

C-SPAN says it intends to broadcast the hearing live.

In real life judges and lawyers don't sound near as smart and slick

as the ones in movies and TV programs.

Judge Carlos Bea actually uses the phrase 'illegal aliens!'
Had to quit cleaning my living room to come and post this....

I thought the Bouma presenting the case for Arizona was a poor speaker and poorly prepared when it came to answerint the question. He stammered and stuttered around to much. He was simply not forceful enought and at times I thought was unfamiliar with legistlative history in the field. I hope when they go to the Supreme Court to even en Banc at the 9th they have better attorney who make a more focefual presentation.

The attorney for the Feds was much better at thinking and responding on his feet than Bouma. His general style was much better, although he too had trouble with some of the questions. He seemed much better prepared in terms of legislative history.

The whole Ferguson case is a problem since it came from the 9th Circuit and they will definately follow that precedent until it is overturned by the Supreme Cournt.
